Every so often, we all get to be part of something much bigger than ourselves. And so to each of you, we say thank you for joining Wholesome Sweeteners’ efforts to make the world a sweeter place, one spoonful at a time. As of January 31, 2010, your continuing support of Wholesome Sweeteners Fair Trade Certified organic sugars and honeys has generated more than $2,000,000 in social premiums for certified farming and beekeeping cooperatives in Malawi, Paraguay and Mexico.   In 2005, when Wholesome pioneered the Fair Trade Certification process for sweeteners, we could only dream of the impacts our Fair Trade programs have made—and it really is all because of each of you. In Malawi, one of the world’s poorest countries, Fair Trade dollars bring safe water, electricity, schools and medicines to farming communities. In Paraguay, Fair Trade dollars buy tractors and trucks, improve bridges and roads, built organically certified mill, and convert thousands of acres from conventional cane cultivation to organic cane cultivation (it’s a 3-year process). And in Mexico, Fair Trade dollars support schools and clinics, and help communities maintain ties to ancient indigenous cultures while participating in the global marketplace.
